From the south end of the unnamed lake, ascend grassy and relatively flat slopes for .5 mile into the upper basin below Mount Arkansas's north face at 12,500 Ft. Climb the couloir for nearly 1,200 feet of sustained 45-50 degrees. Once reaching the top of the couloir, it is a short 100-foot scramble (Class 2+) on stable rock and talus to the summit of Mount Arkansas. From the top, traverse the ridgeline to the eat toward Mount Buckskin. On the way, you will also traverse over the top of 13,619-foot Mount Tweto. Tweto is merely a minor bump on the ridge as you traverse. On the way past Tweto, you will descend 475 feet of easy Class 2 terrain on rocks, and there is a smaller user trail sometimes visible on the ridgeline and on the southern aspect of the ridgeline. From the 13,325-foot connecting saddle between Tweto and Buckskin, stay on the right side (South) on the west ridge and follow it east for 450 feet and .5 mile to the summit. Some sections are part game trail, part rocky boulders. When returning to the trailhead, descend to this connecting saddle between Buckskin and Arkansas, and follow loose scree and use trails for 750 feet down into the flat grassy basin. It's possible to circle around the upper Buckskin basin by following the creek and user trails to reconnect with the four wheel drive road near 12,000 feet and return to trailhead.
